"On Writing" is a great informational book. It's the first book I read by Stephen King. Now I realize why he's so successful!

As am I! I can think of one mystery novel I enjoyed last year, and that was "Roman Blood" by Steven Saylor. I think what pleased me was the setting in ancient Rome more than anything else, though.

Good catch, Eva! There's an explanation for those masks in the book, though. Travelling from one dimension to another in the book isn't easy, and the body needs to acclimatize. Almost like what happens during an organ transplant - the body rejects it. In the book, people who cross the Fissure find it hard to breathe without the aid of those masks.

That looks like Wesley Dodds on the cover. If so, he really is a bona fide DC Comics superhero: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandman_(Wesley_Dodds).

Part of me wonders whether I'm allergic to crime fiction, as the presence of that genre was a big turn-off when I read the book. I'll be exploring that in my next post.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who had these problems with Empire State. So many people have been raving about it I had to wonder if I was missing something, but now I'm just left wondering at the editing process that let this book get published.

Good luck with your goals, Christina. The first step of creating a detailed plan is done. Now it is time for implementation. I have no doubt you will succeed.

This looks like a sound plan for professional development. Remember to add like-minded *editors* to your network. They can bring you work as well as PD.
It's going to be an exciting year!

Yes, that's one goal I forgot to include in the blog post. I also need to become a lot more informed about the self-publishing industry, because I feel that will be my biggest market - authors who want to publish ebooks. After Christmas, I plan on buying a Kobo.
